Daytona 500 2010
Welcome everybody! I hope you all enjoyed the race as much as I did, red flags aside. I thought ALL the events leading up to the 500 were great, CRASHES, LAST LAP PASSES, PHOTO FINISHES, but the racing part of the 500 was just great and “hats off” to NASCAR for allowing the race finish under green! There are a lot of stories from the race, junior races through a pile of cars in 2 laps to finish 2nd! MWR gets two cars in the top 10! Jimmie Johnson breaks an axle and finishes 35th! For me though the coolest thing was Jaimie McMurray winning the 500! It will be easy for those not real fond of Jaimie to make fun of his crying in victory lane, but how many of you out there would give up your right arm to be standing there, a Daytona 500 Winner, bawling your eyes out? Hell I’d have been a boo-hooing, coughing, gagging, snot running out of my nose, huggin EVERYBODY mess! OK enough of that, back to Jaimie.
I have always liked McMurray, After he won charlotte in Starlings car in only his 2nd Cup race, I thought he could be 1 to pull for. I have been looking for a favorite since the great Davey Allison,(my hero), Passed away in 1993. So far I haven’t found a driver that I pull for with the same passion as I did for Davey. Through the years I have pulled for Martin, Kenny Irwin, Johnny Benson, Michael Waltrip. I was really big on Casey Atwood, Remember Him? Right now I really Like Kyle Busch, but I have always kinda pulled for Jaimie Mac! On Sunday he won what will be the race that defines his career! Bravo Jaimie! Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy!
As with all race fans I have drivers that I never really liked and would never pull for. Of course there are a variety of reasons why. Dale sr, never liked him, I respected his racing abilities without question but never liked him. Why? He spun Davey on the 1st lap of the 1990 Miller 400 at Michigan. Dale Jarrett, Never liked him. Why? He beat Davey in a photo finish for his 1st Cup win at, of all places, Michigan in the 1991 champion 400. Ernie Irvan, never liked him. Why? As a lap down car in the 1992 season finale’ at Atlanta Irvan spun Davey off of turn 4 on lap 81, while Davey was running 2nd and a lock to win the points championship by finishing 8th or better no matter who won the race! Finally the Bodines, any of ’em, never liked them. Why? Well I have two reasons, #1 Geoffrey spun who? You guessed it, Davey at Daytona during the early laps of the 1989 Daytona 500, then came up and started a fight with Davey in the pits after the race, or that’s how I saw it. But reason #2 is really kinda funny. Me and my cousin Bill were in attendance for the 1993 season finale’ at Atlanta. We had tickets and courtesy tent passes from DuPont,(Gordon’s rookie year), for both the Busch race and the Cup race. Our Cup tickets had us seated in the very top left corner of the turn 4 Grandstands. Sitting 4 deep to our right and 6 across in front of us were a group of very well fed, if you know what I mean, loud, rude women and All of them were wearing Bodine t-shirts covering all the brothers and letting everyone within 2 sets of grandstands know how great they thought the Bodine boys were. For some reason I cant remember Phil Parsons started the event in the #75 car but pitted under the first yellow and Todd Bodine took over the wheel in relief. During a lap 23 restart, with these woman just screaming, the field came off 4 for the green and then all we could see was smoke, and spinning! When the smoke cleared 3 cars were against the inside front stretch wall and guess who they were, that’s right! Geoff, Brett and Todd Bodine. The whole turn 4 grandstands erupted in laughter and turned their attention on the Bodine big girls club!! Hilarious!
You see, we all have or Drivers we like or dislike for whatever reasons, but I have always kinda pulled for Jaimie McMurray! The 2010 Daytona 500 Champion!
The 2010 p10select racing season is underway and guess who won the Cup event? I did! My first in 5 seasons. I have had a great deal of success in p10’s Nationwide series but just haven’t had much success in the cup series. I intend to change that this year and obviously have taken a big step forward with the season opening win! So in the tradition of “Bent Fenders”, Way to go HunttotheFront on winning the p10 Daytona Cup race! With all the crashes in the race involving some consistent front runners, everyone’s roster took a hit resulting in a low winning score and abnormally low scores throughout the field. I wont post the top 10 this week but will next week to see any jumbles or moves in the standings.
The first 5-8 weeks normally has a lot of tied scores and major jumps and drops in the standings, but the top 20 sorta settles in by then. I do however have a couple of things I will note.
There are currently NO past champions in the top 10
Past Champs in the field:
Hoser (200 52nd
Wolfek420 (09) 57th
1 Mikes40 (07) 76th
JG4TMR (03,05) 81st
Scrub (04) 95th
By my count we have 31 ROY candidates! That’s pretty cool.
P10 Nationwide series. Congrats to this weeks p10 Nationwide Daytona winner, scklobo! Great Job! For the same reasons as above I will not be delving into the top 10 this week.
There is currently 1 Past champ in the top 10, JG4TMR (200 !
Past Champs in the field:
HunttotheFront (09) 11th
P10 Truck series. Congrat’s to the inaugural winner of the p10 Truck Series, Jgfan! Great Job!
This is the 1st season for the trucks so there is no past champs, who do you think it will be? Will The p10 legend JG4TMR get another championship to complete a triple crown? Could be, he currently sits 5th!
Rounding out the series I’m going to try and do some cover on this season is Beat the Streak! And Congrat’s to this weeks p10 Daytona Winner, Racingfan88 and DuPont! A tie for the win kinda cool too, Great job to both teams!
There is currently 1 past champ in the top 10, YOMUDA (200 3rd (tie)
Past champs in the field:
Earl Arnold Jr (09) tied with a gazillion others with no points.
Well that’s what I have for this week! Thanks for your time and GOD Bless!
In loving memory of my little ’bro, Gary Lee. |

“Bent Fender’s”

AKA: HunttotheFront
Interview With Antti Teittine!
Welcome everybody! As you know I’m always trying new things on my blog. This week I have a new feature I call The “Benterview”, my first guest is none other than Antti Tiettine winner of the wild card vote for this years “Champions Challenge”! Antti who lives in Finland (7hr time difference),was very patient and open with me. I hope to do more of these “Benterviews” featuring p10 members throughout the season, we have a very diverse membership and everyone has a story to tell! Enjoy the segment and be sure to give Antti a hello in the comments section!
I spoke with Antti on Saturday February 5th 2010.
Fredrok[11:00:55 AM]: today I am chatting with one of our original competitors Antti Teittine! good morning Antti!
teittine[11:01:17 AM]: Good morning or good evening in Finland
Fredrok[11:01:42 AM]: First off I would like to thank you for taking the time to do this!
Fredrok[11:02:18 AM]: I understand you are some 7 hours time difference from us
teittine[11:02:57 AM]: Yes it now about 6 pm
Fredrok[11:03:09 AM]: I guess my 1st question is how did you become interested in NASCAR racing?
teittine[11:03:55 AM]: I was looking for fantasy leagues in the beginning of this century in internet
Fredrok[11:05:04 AM]: had you already been a fan of American stock car racing when you were looking for a fantasy league
teittine[11:04:58 AM]: and found this
teittine[11:06:13 AM]: Actually yes, because there was also another NASCAR fantasy league, but it stopped. It was in the late 1990s
Fredrok[11:07:39 AM]: I see, what was it about p10select that drew you to become a member?
teittine[11:08:30 AM]: At that time it was the only stock car fantasy league I found
Fredrok[11:09:36 AM]: well you certainly have found a home in p10, you have some very impressive career stats!
teittine[11:10:10 AM]: If you compete so many years, sometimes you succeed
Fredrok[11:10:42 AM]: 3rd all time wins! 3rd all time points!
Fredrok[11:11:04 AM]: do you compete in any other racing leagues?
teittine[11:12:05 AM]: Yes, those stats are quite impressive, but they need a lot of work. Sometimes I compete Formula One
Fredrok[11:13:35 AM]: that is the most popular form of racing in Finland isn’t it?
teittine[11:13:47 AM]: F1, yes
Fredrok[11:14:37 AM]: have you visited America, and if you have were you able to attend any NASCAR events?
teittine[11:15:38 AM]: I visited the USA 1988, but didn't get the touch of it, although I visited Indianapolis too
Fredrok[11:16:37 AM]: were you able to visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway?
teittine[11:17:35 AM]: No, just my friends who were living there. It was the time of Indy 500 in the spring
Fredrok[11:19:44 AM]: I see. Antti do you get any coverage of the NASCAR events in Finland? Via satellite TV maybe?
teittine[11:20:59 AM]: Every Sprint Cup races are live in Finnish pay TV.
Fredrok[11:22:01 AM]: The races are broadcast pretty late in the evening for you then
teittine[11:23:07 AM]: Yes, and also countdowns with speculations etc. are live. They are very late, but sometimes not too late
Fredrok[11:25:28 AM]: I want to say the time difference and lack of 24hr coverage(that we enjoy here) would put you at a bit of a disadvantage, but you are consistently at the top of p10's standings week in week out! I would like to know your secret but I understand one not giving away a winning formula LOL
teittine[11:26:52 AM]: Well, I said it needs a lot work, but you know I don't want to tell my secret
Fredrok[11:27:47 AM]: I promise it will stay between me and you! LOL just kidding!
teittine[11:28:32 AM]: All I can tell, you must know how to calculate
Fredrok[11:29:05 AM]: since you began with p10 in '01 you have seen all the changes and growth in the league, can you tell the members your view on the site from '01 to now?
teittine[11:30:15 AM]: Not really, but I have known YO MUDA and JGT... couple of years
Fredrok[11:31:20 AM]: In your opinion has the competition in p10 gotten tougher over the years?
teittine[11:32:13 AM]: I think so, but real racing results are often very surprising
Fredrok[11:34:34 AM]: Yes they are I have often said that the last 50 laps always seem to invite some sort of calamity to my roster of drivers, and it is rarely in my favor. Does that happen with you also?
teittine[11:36:12 AM]: Yes it does. Are they crashing on purpose or what's the problem in those last 50 laps
Fredrok[11:37:02 AM]: I'm not sure but it can frustrate me at times!
Fredrok[11:37:34 AM]: Who is your favorite NASCAR driver?
teittine[11:38:20 AM]: It is frustrating. Last season I followed Mark Martin, but my children like Kyle Busch
Fredrok[11:40:05 AM]: Kyle gets alot of criticism but I feel he is one of ,if not the best pure drivers in NASCAR at this time! Your thoughts on Kyle?
teittine[11:41:42 AM]: Kyle is a good driver, but sometimes the Toyota team makes crucial mistakes. Hopefully they have solid season 2010
Fredrok[11:42:33 AM]: I completely agree! Who is your least favorite driver if you have one?
teittine[11:44:11 AM]: Two or three years ago I thought that Junior could be better, but not. So I can't understand what' does he wrong.
Fredrok[11:44:55 AM]: I feel the fans expect too much from him
Fredrok[11:45:26 AM]: Antti are you aware that the membership has voted you in as the wild card entry for the champions challenge?
teittine[11:45:20 AM]: Is it a question of pressures?
Fredrok[11:46:03 AM]: I believe it is
teittine[11:45:56 AM]: I was very surprised of that voting
Fredrok[11:46:59 AM]: I think it speaks volumes of the respect as a competitor the membership feels towards you
Fredrok[11:48:17 AM]: Is there anything you would like to convey to p10's members?
teittine[11:48:27 AM]: I hope it too and it means I must be even better this year, have you any clues how to do it
teittine[11:49:30 AM]: I hope we compete against each other with humor
Fredrok[11:51:02 AM]: go out and win the champions challenge! those of us(you included) have earned our spots in what I believe is the most difficult league to win in, and I am glad to be a part of it!
Fredrok[11:51:59 AM]: Just a few more questions Antti, I really appreciate your taking the time to chat with us today!
teittine[11:52:04 AM]: Of course it is everybody's goal to do well
teittine[11:52:44 AM]: This is very interesting and my first time ever interviewed
Fredrok[11:53:31 AM]: Your entries give p10 an international flair! who do you believe will be the NASCAR sprint cup champion this year?
teittine[11:54:55 AM]: A big question. I hope Mark Martin, but JJ is a real candidate, how about Montoya
Fredrok[11:55:59 AM]: Montoya has certainly become a contender! Do you think JJ can make it 5 in a row?
teittine[11:56:38 AM]: JJ can do it again. He's getting better after mid-season
Fredrok[11:58:09 AM]: He is seemingly unstoppable isn’t he?
teittine[11:58:38 AM]: I just wonder who could beat him
Fredrok[11:59:45 AM]: Ill wrap this up Antti, again thank you for participating! If Steve ever has a Hall Of Fame for the p10 site you will certainly be on my ballot
teittine[12:00:22 PM]: OK, thank you guys and have a nice weekend
teittine[12:00:53 PM]: His driving style is so bold
Fredrok[12:01:41 AM]: do you have time for just a few more questions?
teittine[12:01:43 PM]: OK
teittine[12:02:31 PM]: First time someone else is interesting in NASCAR
Fredrok[12:04:36 AM]: LOL! I look forward to competing against you this season Antti! again thanks and have a great weekend Sir!
teittine[12:05:19 PM]: Thank you and good luck to everyone
Fredrok[12:05:39 AM]: be sure to read my bent fenders blog to see some of the comments from the membership about this interview!
teittine[12:06:48 PM]: Yes I will look at the bent fenders blog. Bye bye, I'm out now
Fredrok[12:07:28 AM]: Bye Antti!
Very cool guy, I wish him the best of luck this season! That’s all for now and I thank you for your time, GOD Bless!

CHAMPIONS CHALLENGE UPDATE! |
|
|
Welcome everybody! We are under a week from the qualifying for the Daytona 500! That will be the deadline for the Champions Challenge wild card vote! You can place your votes from the home page for p10select. As of today the voting for the wildcard is as follows:
Antti Tiettinen: 5 votes
Duff Drinker: 2 votes
Zorrohd1: 2 votes
Wildman9: 1 vote
Real Late Model Fan: 1 vote
1 Sparky: 1 vote
The voting should heat up between now and Sunday night, it will be curious to see who the membership feels is deserving to represent them in this series.
Now as I have said in an earlier segment, the Champions Challenge is invite only to the past champs of p10select’s big three divisions……Cup, Nationwide and Beat the Streak! So far I only have 3 confirmations:
JG4TMR
YoMuda
HunttotheFront
I am still hoping to hear from the other invitees:
John Peterson
Scrub
T&W Racing
1 mikes40
Hoser
Wolfek420
Earl Arnold Jr
Finally some racin’ is going to happen at Daytona this week! The shootout! Sat Night! I don’t know about y’all but this off-season has just dragged on! In fact we are just 10 days away from the 500! Who do you think is going to win? I myself am thinking with NASCAR’S new rules on “bump drafting” that it’s going to be one of the nervier drivers, maybe Juan Pablo? Maybe Tony Stewart? Maybe Geeoffry Bodine (I spelled it the way he says it)? Just kidding, the thought of the elder bodine racing brings back memory’s of all the NASCAR blooper reels of the 90’s…… I think its going to be the nerviest of them all Kyle Busch! Call me crazy but he hasn’t been racing with the rules in mind anyway! Well that’s what I have for now, I’m still trying to finish my regular segment. Don’t forget to vote!
Thanks for your time and GOD Bless! In loving memory of my little ‘bro Gary Lee. |

RCR CREW MEMBER DIES FROM COMPLICATIONS DUE TO H1N1 VIRUS!!! |
|
|
What sad news for the racing community. Donald “DJ” Richardson, the rear tire changer for the #29 Chevrolet, passed away shortly after 10 p.m. ET, Friday. He was 37 years old. This was Saturday Dec 26th. This young Athlete in peak physical condition, in the prime of his life, succumbed to this scary virus. It hit all of us, race fans we, somewhere inside, like we had lost………… a friend? Yeah, that’s what it felt like, you see in no other sport are the fans more of a family of friends than racing. How many of you have went to the races for, say, the weekend, and it rained like hell up until race day. Everyone is camping in a big mudhole! Yet no one wants for anything, gets their vehicle stuck and doesn’t get more help than needed to get unstuck! Loses their bag of charcoal to the weather and gets invited to use their neighbors grill and TA-DA! New family of friends! Ever went to the races and sat down next to someone who rooted for a driver you didn’t particularly care for? Had a great time with that new “friend”, new “bro”, didn’t you. That ever happen at a Football game? Hockey? Basketball? Heck, they try to kill each other at freakin soccer games and the players rarely even touch each other!!!! No race fans are different. In no other top attendance venue do you have more than 2 teams competing at 1 time than racing, in NASCARS top level you have 43, in some off road and road race series you can have over 100!! We all cheer, boo, laugh, cry, and coach our guy during the race, but we all come together for all the guy’s when the race is over. My point to all this? I’m not sure, but I do know we all belong to a special fraternity, we are good, kind to one another. We are hard working, ethical. Our athletes we support are not “thugs”, they are role models. Our sanctioners do not “look the other way”, yet demand high character from the privileged few who get to participate. We are loyal consumers, (sponsors?)We are family oriented, we believe in GOD. We are a family. I didn’t know this young man, but my heart and prayers go out to his family, to all those who were familiar with him, I’m sure the rest of his extended “family” feel the same. RIP
Since I am posting this on new years eve, I am going to give some of my predictions for the coming year!
Jimmie Johnson will NOT win a 5th consecutive Sprint Cup Championship!
Denny Hamlin WILL win his 1st Sprint Cup Championship!
Marcos Ambrose WILL win his 1st Sprint Cup Race!
David Reutimann WILL make the Chase!
Dale Earnhardt Jr WILL NOT!
David Ragan WILL continue to be a “real nice kid”!
Kevin Harvick WILL leave RCR by years end!
Kyle Busch Will win races!
Brad Keslowski Will Not!
Mark Martin WILL be the highest finishing Hendrick driver in series points!
Jimmy Spencer WILL get stuck on a 3 letter word in the middle of a sentence!
Danica Patrick WILL be better looking than………well………ALL the drivers!
Greg Biffle and Joey Lagano WILL call each other really bad names!
Robby Gordon WILL win 1 race! (Road Atlanta?)
Sam Hornish Jr WILL win his 1st race!
Derrick Cope WILL sell 2 no 1! Tee-Shirts This Year!
A good time WILL be had by all!
Post a comment and pass along some of your predictions for 2010, and we will look back at season’s end and see how everyone did!
Once again Thank you for your time! That’s what I’ve got for this week! GOD Bless!
In loving memory of my little ‘bro Gary Lee |

Welcome everybody! It’s a new year and I’m getting jazzed up!!!! For those of you who have read my segment, you know I tell it like I see it! That, I promise, will never change. This year, along with my “personal insights to the drivers, tracks, and trends to help you, my faithful reader’s set your roster’s, (follow my advice at your own peril), I will be doing a driver spotlight from any 1 of the big 3 series in NASCAR! Now yes I am a competitor in p10 select and I intend to win, so why would I give aid to my competitors? Simple if I win I’m right, if I don’t I’m normal or something close to that. Anyway I’m doing this as a service, a tool if you will to use as you wish, I mean wouldn’t it be cool if we had say 6 to 10 teams competing for the title in the last 2 week’s………………………….and I won! HA! OK almost got side tracked there. Where was I? Oh yeah driver spotlight, OK I am not going to do the obvious guy‘s right away. You know, Johnson, Busch, Hornaday etc…. No, I am going to spotlight some of the other guy‘s who I think can be fantasy relevant, so for this week I‘ll reach into the bag, and who do we have? No wait this is a receipt for cheese corn, I’ll try again……. Here we go! Marcus Ambrose!
Driver Spotlight: Marcus Ambrose driver of the #47 Little Debbie Toyota, Cup Series, Owner: JTG Daughtery racing
The personable “Australian turtle” began his racing career in go-karts in 1989 at the age of 12.He made an immediate impact, winning 4 Tasmanian titles in the junior division before moving to the senior class in 1995! In the seniors the wins just kept coming, taking top honors in every major karting event in Tasmania including the Victorian title and the Australian title! Now I don’t know very much about the Australian karting scene but they certainly have fancy names for their titles, don’t they! From 1996-2000 Marcos raced in various Formula Ford open wheel series in Australia and Europe winning at every level, including the European Formula Ford championship in 1999!
2001 saw Marcos make his debut in the Australian V8 Supercar series, the closest thing to American Stock Cars, winning the pole in his 1st event, and getting his 1st win in his 4th event leading to rookie of the year honors! His success in the Supercars continued winning back-to-back championships in ‘03-’04 and led the championship points through 10 of 13 rounds in ‘05 before a rare DNF relegated him to a 3rd overall in points, then he set his sights on America!
Surprisingly American race fans took a liking to the “Turtle” right away, making his debut in the Truck series in April of ‘06 at Martinsville driving the WoodBros/JTG Daughtery #20 finishing 33rd. He would go on to post 2 top 5’s and 4 top 10’s in ‘06! 2007 saw the “Turtle” make the jump to the Nationwide series, driving the #59 Kingsford Ford for JTG Daughtery. Marcos finished 8th in points in ’07 scoring 1 top 5 and 6 top 10’s! 2008 saw Marcos get his 1st NASCAR series win at Watkins Glen in the Zippo 200, Marcos finished the ‘08 Nationwide series campaign 10th in points including 3 top 5’s and 6 top 10’s to go with his win! ‘08 also saw Marcos make his debut in the Sprint Cup series, competing in 11 events in the #47 Little Debbie Toyota for JTG Daughtery racing with help from Michael Waltrip racing. Marcos scored his 1st top 5 at the Centurion Boats at the glen, Starting dead last and finishing 3rd! 2009 was Marcos 1st full season at NASCAR’S top level. Scoring 4 top 5’s and 7 top 10’s Marcos remained a season long threat to make the “chase” finishing out the season in 18th in driver point’s! Even more impressive were the tracks that he posted his top 5 and 10 finishes, places like BRISTOL,(10TH AND 3RD),Pocono,(6th), Talladega,(4th), Daytona,(6th), and of course the road courses where he has fast become THE threat to win scoring a 2nd and a 3rd at the 2 road course event’s!
Marcos comes into 2010 with quite a bit of momentum, from a fantasy standpoint there really isn’t a bad venue for him, but at places like Bristol and the road courses he is a MUST ADD for your roster’s, he will certainly be on mine.
Well that’s what I’ve got for this week, as always I thank you for your time and support! I’m going to finish with the 1st of my many predictions this year, we will check at the end of the season and see how I did. Jeremy Mayfield will NOT win his 1st Sprint Cup title in 2010, but he will remain a threat to say or do something STUPID each week! Thank You! And GOD Bless!!
In loving memory of my little ‘bro Gary Lee. |
